Raby's
Rink and Sicoli's Foursomes
in City of Ottawa Men's Bonspiel
City of Ottawa Men's
Bonspiel was back since its name was
formerly OVCA Men's Bonspiel for the last
few years. About 130 teams were
participating, and several of them came
from outside of Canada especially one
team from the state of Oklahoma. Raby's
team consisted of Michael Raby, David
Joseph, David Morton and Michel Cyr with
the record of 4 - 2, and they did not
enter to the final event which was
unfortunate for them, but yet they would
look forward to continue playing at
another bonspiel called Gordie
Perry Bonspiel which would
be hosted at Ottawa Curling Club on April
18 to May 1. Ryan McGuire would be
replaced with Michel Cyr. Les Sicoli with
three deaf squads - Dennis Racine, Roch
Cote and Ryan McGuire competed through 7
games, and the only one game that they
won before they were eliminated after
losing in the 7th game. At least there
would not be at the end of the world for
both teams to sustain their achievements
for next time.

Michel Cyr, Guy Morin,

proudest uniforms for representing Canada
before taking a charter bus of Air France

(Team Canada) the best of luck and hope
them to bring the GOLD medals home again.

Two
deaf mixed teams curled at OVCA Mixed
Bonspiel
Two deaf mixed teams -
Raby's team and Joseph's team, had the
extraordinary curling in 50th Annual OVCA
Mixed Bonspiel in the despite of not
reaching into Final. Two students - Erica
Saniszlo and Olivia Podlesny from
Carleton University taking ASL class,
played for Joseph's rink with two deaf
curlers, David Joseph and David Morton.
Erica and Olivia did go through new
experience to curl in a
"competitive" level since they
used to familiarize curlers in deaf
league as a recreational level. All the
foursome out of Joseph's rink continued
to play to an extra game to a 4 games
total. The OVCA Mixed had given the teams
a 3-games guarantee. Michael Raby's rink
including Andre Guillimette, Cynda
Bileski and Rosemarie Poirier made to the
5th game after winning the first three
games, but losing two games in a row.
They did play one of the best teams, and
Rosemarie played as a lead for Raby's
rink, and she felt worth as she had the
opportunity to take a taste of a true
competition compared to her recent
experience in a "fun" league.
Please pat on their (two teams) shoulders
as they deserved their best.

OVCA Mixed Bonspiel, check here.

X-mas Party
after final game of 2010
Draw 13 was the final game
of 2010 before GCC's doors would be
locked up for the holiday until Draw 14
would be resumed on Jan. 7 in the new
year 2011.
Curlers and fans enjoyed
their meals delievered from Swiss Chalet,
and shared their celebrations of
Christmas with full of joyfulness,
happiness and blessing. The birthday cake
turned out surprisely to Marina who
turned 36 a day before in order to
distribute them (curlers and fans) for
their dessert as well as some curlers
made their desserts to share with. There
were several games and draws to win the
prizes. What an magnificent night!

Curled at
North Grenville Curling Club
Driving to Kemptville that
took us away from the capital for a day
to curl at NGCC which some of new curlers
had no knowledge of the difference from
playing at GCC with its own ice
condition. First game was absolutely
ugly, however that was challenge for the
skips to judge with strategies to play on
not-yet-shaved peddles. The second game
went good than the first one because the
another technician in different shift,
did the work to shave the peddles before
the 2nd game begun. Between two games,
food was provided by the board, so that
all the curlers did not have to get off
to restaurants. That was certain, in
fact, that most of all curlers took the
pressure to stay on playing in three
consecutive games in two days.
(Wave-hands) They had a blast!

Hallowe'en
Spirit - Oct. 29
Some curlers worn some
orange and black for the spirit of
Halloween. Linda Fortus won the prize to
pick up the painted Jack-O-Lantern
pumpkin by guessing the right weight
which was 12 lbs. Most of curlers got the
wrong guess that its weight was as close
as the curling rock, but in fact, it
wasn't. (wave-hand) to Linda.
